Solar PV generation and solar thermal heating can both be applied in Agriculture. Some farms are grid-connected and therefore, utilizing empty and uncultivated lands, implementing an On-Grid Solar PV power plant and connected to the grid under the net metering scheme could lead to considerable savings on electricity bills. In some cases, if land is available this could reach 100% net metering against consumption.
In some other projects, the main focus is saving fuel utilized for pumping, by implementing a solar PV pumping system. This could lead to considerable savings on diesel fuel. The concepts could also be extended to include existing Gen sets as a back-up or a diesel-solar hybrid system.
For building or sometimes pools, a centralized solar water heater and/or pool heating solar system is considered a very high return-on-investment project if compared to other alternatives.
